1930's Metamorphic High Chair Restoration
This high chair languished in a loft for many years. The metalwork was very rusty and the polish was very dull. There was one piece of wood missing from the footrest, but otherwise the chair was in good structural order.
All metal that could be removed was soaked in Evaporust overnight and thens cubbed with a wire brush. The bits that could not be removed were cleaned with wire wool and all were coated in Red Oxide primer and two coats of black enamel.
The footrest had a new front lip made, attached and stained. The woodwork was cleaned with wire wool dipped in methylated spirit. This removed the top layers of polish and filled all the cracks and bumps. All was abraded with Silicon Carbide paper and then re-polished with several coats of clear shellac.
The abacus beads were given some bright enamel colours and then all was reassembled using the original screws and staples.
