1/18 Jewellery Box with rotating ballerina
A simple Art Deco jewellery box bought in a run down state
A fairly simple restoration.
The movement, by Fuji, was in good shape so a good clean and bearing oil was all that was required.
The mirror silvering was poor, the hinges and other metal parts corroded and the interior very dirty.
I stripped it all (including the movement) down to individual components..
Apart from the top and front panel, the box external and internal surfaces were a grubby brown.
All painted surfaces are now gloss black. New brass stop hinges and brass screws were fitted.
The interior and mirror beads were covered in scarlet velvet with new brass screws.
A clear cover was cut and fitted over the mechanism to replace a tatty plywood one and doing away with the need for a metal guide.
Finally a brand new ballerina was added.
