3/99 Cartel movement with sectional comb circa 1825
Likely to have been a base to a clock or automaton, in a large oval dome, in an earlier life.
As received
April 2023
The base is way too large and in poor condition for display, so I have decided to rehouse the movement into a rectangular box that was originally made to hold instruments of some sort.
Although perfect in size, it has some loose joints and will require some conversion work to make it all fit. See below.

Dismantling started 22 April
All brass parts (other than cylinder and bedplate) were soaked in Horolene for 24 hours then rinsed and dried. They were then polished using a cotton Dremel wheel with a polishing cream.
The cylinder and bedplate were polished using Wrights Brass Polish, rinsed and dried. The bedplate was polished with the Dremel. The Cylinder was polished using Autosol and buffed to a shine with a fine horse hair brush.
All steel parts were degreased in an ultrasonic bath with added degreaser, rinsed and dried then lightly abraded using a Dremel.
