This mahogany box was probably originally a small sewing or jewellery box with a lift out tray, but the tray was long gone and so was the bottom of the box itself. The lock was broken (and didn't fit properly anyway), but the sides and lid were in reasonable shape.

Below are some images of the carcass having been cleaned up, the tray supports removed and a new base fitted. I managed to source a new (second hand) brass lock, keep and key) which was an almost perfect fit. The brass hinges were polished up on the Dremel. I fitted four wooden beads as feet,

The whole outer case was given several coats of French polish and then lined with burgundy coloured velvet flock.
The key was fitted with a small tassel to match the interior.
